ForMin Odobescu, Dutch ambassador Van Haaften discuss bilateral relations, regional state of play

Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu and Dutch ambassador to Romania Willemijn Van Haaften on Monday discussed the current security context, bilateral economic and political relationships, told Agerpres,

Odobescu welcomed Van Haaften on Monday to receive copies of the ambassador’s letters of credence.

“Minister Odobescu highlighted the high dynamics in the political and diplomatic dialogue, the solid economic relationships, excellent co-ordination at the EU, NATO and multilateral levels, as well as a shared vision of the current security context. She emphasised Romania’s appreciation for the participation of the Dutch troops in the NATO battlegroup in Romania, which represents a crucial contribution to ensuring the defence and deterrence posture on the eastern flank,” the Romnaian Foreign Ministry (MAE) reported on Tuesday.

Odobescu also commended the Netherlands for support for Romania’s accession to the Schengen area and presented the efforts of Romanian diplomacy related to the achievement of this priority objective of Romania’s foreign policy.

Regarding the current security developments, she voiced concern over the worrying security situation in the Black Sea, with the Dutch side reconfirming full support and solidarity with Romania, including in the light of recent developments. Odobescu reconfirmed Romania’s determination to continue unconditional support for Ukraine, including in terms of ensuring transit for grain exports to global markets.
