The Romanian tennis player Irina Begu qualified for the semifinals of the WTA 125 tournament in Cali (Colombia), with total prizes of 115,000 dollars, on Friday, by defeating the Australian Tina Smith, 6-1, 6-3.
Begu (34 years old, no. 102 in the WTA), the second seed, won after one hour and 12 minutes against a younger and lower ranked opponent Tina Smith (22 years old, no. 322 in the WTA).
Irina Begu secured a cheque for 8,000 dollars and 81 WTA points.
Begu will meet in the final the winner of match between the Hungarian Panna Udvardy (26 years old, no. 146 in the WTA) and the Slovenian Veronika Erjavec (24 years old, no 199 in the WTA).
