A total of 28 people have been placed under preventive arrest and one is being investigated under judicial control for drug trafficking in schools and high schools, following 54 home searches carried out earlier this week by the Brigade for Combatting Organised Crime (BCCO) Iasi and the Vaslui Organised Crime Combat Unit, together with the Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) branches in Iasi and Vaslui, as part of “Operation School.”
“Additionally, for two minor individuals, aged 15, it was decided, in accordance with the provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure, to conduct psychiatric forensic expertise to determine whether they committed the acts with discernment,” informs a statement from the Inspectorate General of the Romanian Police (IGPR) sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday.
Investigations revealed that, during the year, the individuals involved had allegedly acquired, possessed, manipulated, intermediated, and sold drugs of lower risk – cannabis, cannabis resin, as well as high-risk drugs – crystal, MDMA, and psychoactive substances to consumers, predominantly minors and young people, from Iasi and Vaslui counties.
“This large-scale action represents, alongside other similar operations carried out by the Romanian Police and DIICOT, a prompt and sustained response to combat drug trafficking and consumption among students, but also a wake-up call to raise awareness about the scale of this phenomenon and the need to stop it through joint efforts from the entire community,” the statement further reads.
